Indian-origin NASA astronaut Anil Menon and two Russian cosmonauts have launched to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft from Kazakhstan.

This is Menon's first space mission, and the crew will spend about eight months on the ISS before returning to Earth in April 2027.

During the mission, Menon will carry out scientific research and test new technologies to support future space exploration and improve life on Earth.

He will also study how long stays in space affect the human body and help test new medical technologies for future deep-space missions.

The Soyuz spacecraft is expected to dock with the ISS about three hours after launch.
