Menon, a 49-year-old US Space Force colonel and emergency medicine physician born to Ukrainian and Indian parents, holds degrees from Harvard and Stanford and a certification in aerospace medicine. During his mission he will study semiconductor crystal production in space, the impact of space on human blood flow, and use AI and augmented reality to reduce astronaut reliance on Earth-based medical support. Menon has a remarkable career spanning disaster response in Haiti and Nepal, deployment to Afghanistan, work on Mount Everest and building SpaceX's medical programme. His wife Anna Menon is also a NASA astronaut.
