South Africa has appointed an independent panel to review its draft national AI policy after officials withdrew an earlier version found to contain fictitious and potentially AI-generated references. Communications Minister Solly Malatsi called the incident a "massive oversight" as the government moves to revise the document and launch a new public consultation process.
