Are Mukesh Ambani and Mark Zuckerberg building the next big AI infrastructure hub in India? In a major development, Reliance Industries will build a new data centre for Meta Platforms in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
The facility is expected to have an initial capacity of 168 MW and is targeted for completion within the next two years. This will reportedly be Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre in India, meaning it will be specifically designed according to Meta’s AI, cloud, and digital infrastructure requirements.
Meta plans to lease the capacity and use the facility to support its global AI operations, computing workloads, and next-generation digital services. Under the agreement, Reliance will handle the design, construction, power supply, network connectivity, and overall operations management of the project.
Reliance has stated that the data centre will be powered by renewable energy and could strengthen India’s position as a global AI and digital infrastructure hub. The project highlights the growing importance of AI data centres, cloud computing, GPUs, and large-scale computing infrastructure in the global technology race.
