Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation the world's largest regional bloc, saying it represents nearly half of the global population and over one-third of world GDP. At the SCO Summit, Putin pushed for stronger trade, national currency settlements, an independent SCO Development Bank and deeper energy cooperation. He also warned against using sanctions as economic weapons and called for preventing new global conflicts through closer cooperation.
