Will petrol and diesel prices come down soon in India? Even though global crude oil prices have fallen, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri says an immediate fuel price cut is unlikely.

According to the minister, Indian oil companies are still refining expensive crude oil purchased nearly two months ago during the peak of the West Asia conflict. If international crude prices remain low for the next 2–3 months, the government and oil marketing companies may consider reducing petrol and diesel prices.

He also revealed that oil companies incurred ₹74,781 crore in losses by selling petrol, diesel, and LPG below cost until June 30. At the peak of the crisis, companies were reportedly absorbing around ₹2,400 crore in daily losses to protect consumers. Despite geopolitical tensions, India did not face fuel shortages or long queues at petrol pumps.
