China and the United States are opening formal discussions on AI governance despite escalating competition over advanced technology, semiconductors, cybersecurity, and AI models. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun confirmed that Donald Trump and Xi Jinping discussed AI cooperation during talks in Beijing and agreed to launch an intergovernmental AI dialogue.
