The Malaysian national badminton coaching staff is demanding a strong response from women's doubles stars Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah at next week's Super 1000 Indonesia Open.

The world number two pair suffered a shock straight-games defeat to a lower-ranked Thai combination Benyapa Aimsaard-Nuntakarn Aimsaard at the Singapore Open last 16 stage.

National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky revealed the duo delivered a below-par performance marred by costly unforced errors.

Pearly has only recently returned to action after a recurring back injury forced her to miss two months of competition.

The leading Malaysian duo will look to replicate last year's form in Jakarta, where they successfully reached the final.

They face Canada's Jackie Dent and Crystal Lai in their opening match at the Indonesia Open which begins on Tuesday.
