New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI tools for public school students through eighth grade, affecting around 600,000 students. The policy will suspend the use of about 40 AI-based educational tools, while teachers can continue using AI for lesson planning and administrative work.
