NASA Sent a Robot to Save a Telescope—Then It Lost Control

NASA attempted something never done before: sending a commercial robotic spacecraft to capture and raise an operational space telescope that was never designed for servicing.

Katalyst Space's LINK launched in July 2026 to help NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, but an attitude-control problem prevented the planned capture and boost. On August 18, NASA and Katalyst called off that part of the mission. LINK may still conduct rendezvous and proximity operations near Swift to test technology for future spacecraft servicing.

This original WATCH Real Event Short uses English narration, original editing, synchronized captions, sound design, and AI-assisted animated visual reconstructions. Reconstructed scenes are not archival footage.
