Meta has begun another major restructuring round, cutting nearly 8,000 jobs globally while simultaneously expanding its AI divisions. Employees reportedly received “work from home” instructions before layoff emails arrived in waves across time zones, starting in Singapore. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is pushing an aggressive AI-first strategy, with Meta planning up to $145 billion in AI-related spending this year. Around 7,000 employees are also being reassigned into AI-focused teams as management layers shrink. The layoffs reflect a broader tech industry trend, with companies like Cisco, Oracle, Cognizant, and LinkedIn also cutting thousands of jobs. Analysts say AI-driven automation is increasingly replacing mid-level and operational roles, marking a major shift in how tech companies view labor, efficiency, and future growth.
