Senator Tim Kaine confronted Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a tense Senate hearing, pressing the administration on the ongoing Iran conflict, presidential war powers, sanctions policy, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Kaine argued that the conflict has created major economic consequences for American families through higher energy prices and disruptions to global shipping. He repeatedly questioned what conditions Iran must meet to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and whether Congress has been properly consulted regarding military operations.

Rubio defended the administration's position, arguing that Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz are unlawful and insisting that Tehran must reopen international shipping lanes and engage in negotiations regarding its nuclear program. The exchange also touched on sanctions relief, uranium enrichment, maritime security, and the future of U.S.-Iran diplomacy.

The hearing comes amid growing congressional scrutiny of the administration's Iran strategy, war powers authority, and the economic impact of the conflict on global energy markets.
