China Just Built a Solar Powered AI Data Centre | Galaxy Campus

AI has a massive problem that has nothing to do with intelligence: electricity.

As AI data centers grow, they need enormous amounts of power. China’s answer is to build computing infrastructure where renewable energy is already abundant.

In Inner Mongolia, Envision has launched the Galaxy Campus, an AI data center designed to run directly on wind and solar energy instead of depending on the traditional power grid.

The campus is planned to support up to 1 million AI chips, turning the desert’s strongest natural resources — sun and wind — directly into computing power.

And Galaxy is only the beginning.

Under a broader plan called Mission Gobi, Envision aims to develop gigawatts of green AI infrastructure in desert regions by 2030.

At the same time, other companies are exploring very different ways to meet AI’s rapidly growing energy demand.

So the AI race may no longer be just about who has the best chips.

It could also be about who can find enough energy to run them.

Which future would you bet on: AI powered by renewables or AI powered by traditional energy?
