A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after termite-damaged cash, allegedly amounting to over one crore rupees, was recovered from a Trinamool Congress-occupied student union room at Kolkata's Surendranath College. Along with the cash, an improvised firearm was found, and a furnished flat allegedly used by the TMC student union general secretary was discovered on the top floor. BJP MLA Sajal Ghosh visited the campus, alleging that more cash could be hidden. Police have registered a complaint and initiated an investigation into the recovery. In a separate incident, police recovered a large quantity of explosives and ammunition from the residence of local TMC leader Javaid Shaikh in the Kalikatala area under Jibantala police station in South 24 Parganas. The back-to-back recoveries have led to a political showdown in the state, with the BJP targeting the ruling TMC over the cash and arms seizures.
