On October 4, 1992, El Al Flight 1862 crashed into apartment buildings in Amsterdam’s Bijlmermeer district after losing two engines shortly after takeoff.

The explosion destroyed hundreds of apartments, ignited massive fires, and killed residents along with everyone on board the aircraft.

In the years that followed, survivors and rescue workers reported unexplained illnesses while controversy grew over the aircraft’s cargo and the long-term effects of the disaster.
