Prominent Jordanian figures are demanding that their government reconsider its military agreement with the United States and remove foreign troops from the country. The campaign follows repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks against installations used by American forces inside Jordan. Tehran says it is targeting US military assets, but those operations have exposed Jordanian territory and civilians to the danger of a wider confrontation. Former minister Amjad Hazaa Al Majali said the agreement does not serve Jordan’s national interests and undermines its sovereignty. Other signatories warned that hosting American forces could give foreign powers a reason to attack the kingdom. Jordan’s government has not announced that US troops will be expelled. However, the campaign demonstrates how Iran’s military pressure is producing a political backlash against Washington’s regional presence—and raising questions over whether American bases protect Jordan or turn it into a target.
