"The only limiting factor for AI at the moment is how much energy can be supplied," said Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO, Hitachi Energy, explaining that data centres have grown from 20-40 megawatts four years ago to proposals of 2 to 5 gigawatts today.

For comparison, he noted that London Heathrow Airport, with all its air conditioning running in peak summer, uses around 30-40 megawatts.
