Aditya Birla Group needed around ₹14,000 crore to finance its acquisition of Shell’s renewable energy business in India, but banks have reportedly offered credit commitments worth as much as ₹24,000 crore.

The deal will give Aditya Birla Renewables control of a renewable energy portfolio of around 5 GW through the acquisition of Solenergi Power, which owns Sprng Energy.

According to reports, Axis Bank and State Bank of India have each offered credit lines of up to ₹7,000 crore, while Union Bank of India and Punjab National Bank have offered around ₹5,000 crore each.

The group is also reportedly in discussions with HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

The huge response highlights strong lender appetite for large corporate acquisitions and India’s growing renewable energy sector.
