In an exclusive interview with India Today Global's Geeta Mohan, former Pakistan Army Major and UK-based journalist Adil Raja says the narrative around Pakistan-administered Kashmir has fundamentally flipped. Raja notes that while Pakistan long insisted on calling Indian-administered Kashmir "occupied," residents of Pakistan's own Azad Kashmir now themselves describe it as "Maqbooza," or occupied, Kashmir. He says this dramatic shift has unfolded rapidly, driven by three and a half years of suppressed political dissent within Pakistan. Raja also alleges that Pakistan's state has been engaging in transnational repression, targeting critics abroad simply for speaking evidence-based truths, extending the crackdown beyond its own borders and deepening public anger against the establishment.
