A frightening accident occurred in Bangkok's Chinatown on October 1, 2026, when a 78-year-old driver lost control of a BYD electric vehicle and crashed directly into the Guanyin Shrine at the Thian Fah Foundation on Yaowarat Road. Around 30 worshippers who were inside paying their respects were forced to scramble to safety as the vehicle sped through the main entrance.

Three people were injured in the collision, including a 60-year-old woman who had to be freed from beneath the front bumper by emergency responders before being rushed to Klang Hospital with serious injuries. The driver told police he suffered a sudden dizzy spell and briefly blacked out before pressing down on the accelerator. Tests confirmed no alcohol was involved, and officers are investigating the incident for reckless driving causing injury.
